Employee Spotlight - Jeff and Dan O'Coin |
|
![]() Clockwise from left: Jeff, James, Sheryl, Dan In this edition of Aerovision we focus on one of the numerous father-son duos that Bauer employs: Jeff and Dan O'Coin. Jeff is a Customer Service Representative and Dan is a Hydraulic/Electrical Assembler. Jeff is the middle child of seven (2 boys, 5 girls). The importance of family was taught to him at an early age. Outside of work, he spends quite a bit of time helping his siblings and mother out. If time permits, he enjoys traveling to their vacation home up in the mountains of New Hampshire; spending time working on their cabin or reflecting in the solitude of the mountains. Jeff and Sheryl, his wife of 28 years, have a strong relationship with sons Dan and James, and dog Ozzie completes their happy family. Jeff has worked at Bauer for almost 14 years. He started out in Electrical Assembly then moved to Customer Service around 1998-1999. Through his experience in Customer Service he has been involved in just about every aspect of the company working through customer issues. Jeff's first job at the age of 13 was a job his father got for him and was told the quality of work he did was a direct reflection on his father, this was a good lesson in his career. He then worked in retail for 5 years, learning the high standards for customer satisfaction. Jeff then worked for a very small company as a Specialized Door Installer servicing Fire, Sound, Cold Storage and Blast doors traveling all over New England, New York and New Jersey. This was when he realized that working on equipment and dealing with people was an area he enjoyed. |
During this employment, he went to school nights for Electronics while working days. After completing his education he went to work for a company in the manufacturing field, where he started out in electrical assembly, working his way through the company until his departure as Production Manager. Jeff was there just short of 10 years. Jeff states that "My travels as a Customer Service representative have been a learning experience I wish everyone could have. As we become more of a global community it is becoming more important to understand how we all fit into our world. By visiting our customers all over the world, this has given me the chance to experience their lifestyles and cultures, and learn that we all must work together if we are to have a world of peace and harmony. No matter where or what the issue might be, we have always been able to come to a resolution with our customers." Dan graduated from Rockville High School and attended Manchester Community College for a short time before realizing that he was unsure of his career path. So, after leaving school, Jeff suggested that Dan seek a position here at Bauer. Dan started on October 31, 2005. He started out working in receiving and held that position for about a year and a half. He has now moved to the shop assembly floor. His main department is electrical assembly, although he also does hydraulic assembly work as well. Dan also helps out in just about everything in the shop, from shipping and engraving to paint and fabrication, wherever his skills can be put to good use. Dan's first job when he was 14 was dressing up as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer for Dzen Tree Farm in South Windsor during the holiday season. When summertime came, he traded the antlers for a farmer's tan by trimming trees and picking strawberries and raspberries. He worked at the farm for about three years. Dan also had a short stint working at TJ Maxx and at an ice house, bagging and delivering ice, before coming to settle in at Bauer. Dan currently attends Manchester Community College at night. In his spare time he enjoys attending UCONN football games and attending baseball games at Yankee Stadium. |
